New Account Information

I finished a batch of accounts to a couple of people who have been on my request list. If you have sent me a request and have not received your account, you may have been marked "completed" by mistake (or your message was deleted). In this case, if you still need an account please send me a message.

Logging in problems

I used a australia.edu email a while ago to create a Mixi account to connect further with my Ameba friends. I later changed the primary email to my main hotmail.com email.

It seemed to work just fine until today...
I have tried both emails, but I can't seem to log in anymore.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Could not logging on for a few weeks cause the account to 'expire'?

My Mixi is here if someone could check if it still exists: http://mixi.jp/show_profile.pl?id=27186681

Mixi account creation update: australia.edu has been blacklisted.
by Kou (kou)
at March 22nd, 2010 (06:31 pm)

Attention mixi.jp members and Internet visitors,

Australia.edu has been blocked from account creation without a mobile phone confirmation.

Regarding the current account creations:

My invite links are still working. Since I invited myself several weeks ago, I considered the possiblity that they may have closed that loophole, but the older invites were exempt. However, I just checked and I can still create accounts without validation.

Which means that either australia.edu has been manually blacklisted by mixi (most likely), or it's being blocked by another metric, such as limiting the number of "pre-validated" invitations that any user, or any specific domain, can generate. At this time I do not know if there is a limit to how many times or how long I can "bypass activation"... but my best bet is that Australia.edu is no longer a trusted domain, and there is no effect on other domains.

But wwu *****.edu still works, so students can continue to create unlimited accounts. Ssshhh, don't tell mixi ;D

Mixi account registrations

at March 20th, 2010 (10:36 pm)

If you have not yet registered for Mixi and need an account, please send me a message on Livejournal and I can help you create a validated account.

The method is working and as promised, I have already sent accounts to those who have messaged me. Please do not post your e-mail address in a comment; I probably won't see it for a while, and I don't encourage any users to publicly post their e-mails.

working: new method to create mixi accounts for you
by Kou (kou)
at March 5th, 2010 (11:53 am)

need mixi?

I have confirmed a working method for creating mixi accounts. As expected, .edu email addresses do in fact bypass keitai verification. If you have a .edu or .ac.jp email, it will work to create an account with only an invite, which I can send you.

For multiple accounts, .edu addresses can be re-used. In addition, several other e-mail related hacks are not or cannot be blocked. For example, if you have a Unix-based .edu email address, you may be able to receive e-mail in the form of youraddress+anything@***.edu and mixi will consider this a different e-mail address.

The only problem was that I did not have a source of unlimited .edu accounts due to a technical design of my school's main email system. I had to painstakingly change the e-mail address on the account before re-using the same .edu address. Which takes just about 5 minutes overall, but you know, meh, I'm lazy.

So now, it's fixed. In technical terms I have control of the MX on my own .edu subdomain, and it uses Sendmail so it routes +suffixes properly as well having mail routing rules and wildcard DNS. root[+***]@[****.]albireo.cseng.%&$*#!u.edu now goes to me.

What this means for you: I am still bogged down with stuff due to overdue assignments BUT if you really want a mixi account and you do NOT have your own .edu email to verify it with... I will be happy to create your account. If your account request is not urgent however I would ask you to wait a few days from today's post due to my scheduling.

  • After March 12, 2010, send me a Livejournal message with your e-mail address or post here. Then I will create your account for you. (If you need it immediately I will try to consider your request as well.)

  • Note: The e-mail address and password can and will need to be changed on the mixi account. All details such as name are changeable. Mixi account access cannot be reset except with the current email address. NO CHARGE ($0.00. and no warranty or liability accepted.)

I feel like requests for mixi invites come in every once in a while - this guy is helping you get an account without having a Japanese phone number/email.
